Human rights organisation has asked President, Major General, Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) to declare rape a national crisis.

This is due to the frequency of rape cases in the West African nation.

Just today, a 19-year-old, Barakat Bello was gang-raped and murdered in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.

Barakat’s sister found her lifeless body behind their home after the act.

The deceased was a student of the Institute of Agriculture, Research and Training, Ibadan.

The Non-Governmental Organisation asked the President to prioritise women safety.

Recently, the body also condemned the rape and brutal murder of Vera Uwaila Omozuwa; a 22-year-old 100-level student of the University of Benin, Edo State.

Vera Uwaila was raped and killed inside a Redeemed Christian Church of God in Benin city. A situation that has led several women to speak up against rape and brutal crimes committed against women under this famous hashtag, #JusticeForUwa.

In the same vein, a 16-year-old girl, Tina Ezekwe, was allegedly killed in Lagos when she was hit by bullets fired by policemen.

Also, a 12-year-old girl in Jigawa State was raped by 11 men.

Amnesty International said all of the brutal murders must stop.
