After apologizing, OAU student Adeife allegedly attempts suicide after David refused her apology

A female student at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Adeife, reportedly attempted suicide after her classmate, David Adefesobi Ojuko refused to accept her apologies for falsely accusing him of rape.

The incident, which surfaced amid escalating online discussions on February 24, 2026, followed her public video apologies that David and his legal team deemed inadequate to repair the severe reputational harm caused.

Reports circulating on social media indicate she tried to end her life but was reportedly stopped by a passerby, heightening the emotional stakes in what has become a high-profile case about false allegations and accountability.

The controversy began around February 17, 2026, when Adeife accused David on social media without evidence, sparking viral backlash and harassment against him.

An internal OAU senate investigation cleared David of any wrongdoing, prompting Adeife to retract her claims in the initial apology videos.

David responded by filing a ₦15 million defamation lawsuit through K.C. Anekwe & Associates on February 22, 2026, demanding a formal written apology, full retraction from all platforms, removal of related content, and damages for ongoing emotional distress, lost opportunities, and persistent online circulation of the accusations.

In her second public apology video, Adeife expressed profound regret, clarified that David had never committed rape, and described him as respectful based on accounts from others.

She referenced a February 20, 2026, virtual meeting between their families where she took responsibility and committed to a formal apology letter, with her parents planning to visit Ile-Ife.
