Africans have taken to social media to kick against the idea of giving the Mama Africa title to US singer, Beyonce.

Beyonce recently released Black is King which is the visuals for Lion King: The Gift, a soundtrack album for the Disney movie, Lion King.

The album features African acts like Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade, Wizkid, Mr Eazi, Burna Boy, Tekno, Bankuli, and Shatta Wale.

Since the visuals dropped, Beyonce has been getting lots of praise from Africans for showing the rich culture of their continent to the world.

One fan took to Twitter with an idea of rewarding Beyonce for the gesture.

"Can we normalize calling Beyonce Mama Africa?", @_YourGirl_T asked Twitter users.

This didn't sit well with Africans who reminded her that the continent already has great female singers who deserve the title, not Beyonce whom they consider to be a foreigner.

Below are some reactions gathered by MyNigeria.com.

@chiefcebo_ wrote: "The Mama Africa name did not come cheap, it came as a result of a woman who engaged political struggles, came face to face with bullets and also continued to sing to enlighten and educate. Beyonce might be the best at what she does, but she can't have that tittle. NEVER!!!!"

@ngwube_g wrote: "Beyonce is yet to even fight for the rights of African American women in the US. I'm sure she wouldn't even get that title back home. How she managed to get considered in an entirely different continent she's done little or nothing for beats my imagination tbvh!".

@Ronotecnico wrote: "Mama Africa to me is somebody like the late Wangari Maathai. Beyonce will have to live in Africa at least 10 consecutive years, learn to cook African meals, fetch water from the river etc... And then Africans we'll consider her"

@And_then_wena wrote: "I blame sensationalism and western saviorism for this thinking. Cos apparently USA is the best country in the world, so their citizens like @Beyonce ought to be Africa's savior!!! Let me say this loud and clear: "F**k that"! We have our OWN who can save us, not abo Americans".

@Mandelavibes wrote: "That's an insult to Brenda Fassie and many other female artists who have contributed tremendously to Africans. Beyoncé is an American artist that sings and performs well to capitalize on her fans".

@cocaamama wrote: "Naaah. Beyonce doesn't really know the struggles like that. She just has the money to endorse whatever she feels like hyping. We'll see how you feel a year from now".

@MuthoniMaryane wrote: "Beyoncé should remain Beyoncé, let Mama Africa be for actual African women who live and stay in Africa".

@shadedthoughtss wrote: "She ain’t no Mama Nothing!! She’s the mama of her children..definitely not Mama Africa. We have Angelique Kidjo in that position as she’s our Mama Africa.. loads of other African singers also waiting to fill the role. Not Beyoncé, Rihanna or any black American".
