Veteran Nollywood actor Francis Duru has reportedly died at 57 after a brief illness, prompting an outpouring of grief from fans and colleagues mourning a familiar face in the industry.

His family announced his passing on his official Instagram page early Friday, expressing gratitude for the prayers and encouragement they received during this difficult time.

“We, the family of Francis Duru, regret to announce his passing following a brief illness.

“We appreciate your prayers, love, and understanding. May his soul rest in perfect peace. Amen,” the statement read.

His death comes months after the actor denied rumours that he was suffering from a life-threatening condition. In June, a video showing him appearing frail circulated online, raising concerns among fans and colleagues.

In response to the speculation, Duru posted a video on Instagram, describing the footage as fabricated and malicious.

Born on July 27, 1969, in Cameroon to Nigerian parents from Imo State, Duru completed his early education there before moving to Nigeria to pursue higher education.

The actor married Adokiye in 2003, and they had four children together. In August 2024, the family suffered a painful loss when one of their children, Ifeanyi, died.
