AY Makun stuns many as he admits to not being among the 10 funniest comedians in the country

Popular Nigerian comedian cum actor Ayodeji Richard Makun, popularly known as AY has recently made headlines for remarks he made about his comedic abilities.

The humorist has received a lot of criticism on social media, despite his successful years performing stand-up comedy.

AY informed his critics in a recent interview with Toke Makinwa that stand-up comedy is more than just being funny.

He mentioned that he had become successful and able to support himself by specializing and developing a devoted following.

AY emphasized that he does not have to appease critics who think he is funnier than he actually is in order to succeed.

He went on to say that he didn't think he was one of Nigeria's ten funniest comedians.

He said: "So people should understand that it's not about who knows it best; I have my own fanbase; does my work put food on the table for my family? Yes, deal with it. That I am doing well doesn't mean I do not respect the other person that you respect—that you claim is more talented, and I would accept it wholeheartedly."
