'A man is always guilty until he is proven innocent, but a woman is forever innocent' - AY

Nigerian comedian AY Makun has weighed in on the controversy surrounding TikToker Mirabel’s rape allegation.

The comedian shared his view on X, arguing that men are often treated as “guilty until proven innocent” in assault-related cases, while, on the other hand, women are not given the same judgment.

Expressing disappointment in what is mostly perceived as injustice and double standards, he called for equal due process to prevent injustice.

"A man is always guilty until he is proven innocent. A woman is forever innocent until she is proven guilty. No the difference and know peace," he wrote.

His comment came amidst a trending alleged rape case of a certain TikTok user, Mirabel, who had posted a tearful video alleging she was assaulted in her apartment on February 15, triggering online outrage and the #StopRapingWomen trend.

However, subsequent claims by individuals identified as neighbours questioned the genuineness of the case, prompting them to share videos of Mirabel's apartment online to prove that nothing like that happened.

Investigations are ongoing, and all parties remain presumed innocent until proven otherwise.
