128 patients have been discharged out of 407 cases, the Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Chikwe Ihekweazu has said.

He made this disclosure on a programme organised by Channels Television, Sunrise Daily.

Speaking to the Benue State COVID-19 patient who claimed she was being held captive by the Federal Government, he said:

"Some people are not ill and they test positive and they still carry the virus for a long period. Nobody needs to convince you to stay in the hospital. It is not an easy scenario to convince you to stay. However, you are infectious. Please be patient, we can't regulate the virus. As soon as you get better we will discharge you."

Reiterating the need for more healthcare professionals, the NCDC boss said people are free to volunteer as the body needs more hands.

"Whoever thinks that they are ready to do this. Once you are ready we would include you," he added.
