A decade after the death of legendary Nigerian music producer and songwriter, OJB Jezreel, friends, colleagues and industry stakeholders have celebrated his enduring contribution to the growth of Nigerian music.
The 10th memorial of Babatunde Augustine Okungbowa, popularly known as OJB Jezreel, was marked with an evening of memories, music and tributes at The Palms Mall, Lagos.
The gathering brought together family members, entertainers and industry figures who reflected on the life, creativity and influence of the late music maestro, who played a significant role in shaping the sound of contemporary Nigerian music.
As part of activities commemorating his legacy, a documentary entitled “The Architect of the Empire: Pin Jezreel and the Global Triumph of Afrobeats” was aired on HipTV, featuring tributes from some of the artists and producers who worked closely with him.
Those who featured in the documentary, including Ruggedman, Baba Dee, Puffy T, Fliptyce, ID Cabasa and K-Solo, described OJB Jezreel as a rare talent, a selfless individual and a key figure whose contributions helped shape the Nigerian music industry.
They remembered him as a gem, highlighting his humility, straightforward personality and non-materialistic approach to life despite his influence and achievements.
The documentary examined OJB Jezreel’s impact on Afrobeats, portraying him as one of the creative minds whose production works and mentorship helped lay foundations for the global acceptance of Nigerian music.
Known for producing several hit songs and mentoring emerging talents, OJB Jezreel remained respected among musicians and producers for his technical brilliance and deep understanding of music production.
The memorial served as a reminder of his lasting influence, with attendees celebrating not only his music but also the values and relationships he left behind.
