Ibori may cough out stolen loot over fresh UK suit

James Ibori James Ibori

All is not over for James Ibori as a British persecutor has reapproached his case to convict the ex-governor of laundering his loot abroad.

While this act can be seen as never-ending punishment for his sin, the case is already in the works and has been billed to last for four weeks.

Prosecution counsel Jonathan Kinnear who volunteered to retake the case in Southwark, Britain has listed the assets he wants the former Delta State Governor to return to Nigeria coffers.

The whole value of Ibori's laundered money stands at 117 million pounds ($153 million), reported by Reuters. However, not all of the money may be fully recovered.

During his time in office, Ibori, 57, amassed a portfolio of luxury properties in Nigeria, London, Washington, Houston, and Johannesburg. He traveled all over the world, staying in the most expensive hotels and spending lavishly in luxury stores.

When he has finally tried in Southwark eight years ago, he pleaded guilty in the Southwark Crown Court to 10 counts of fraud and money-laundering.

He received a 13-year jail sentence.
