Osun State Government has explained why it stopped the registration of fresh Okada riders and operators in the state.

According to the Government, it was trying to guide against unwarranted invasion by unlicenced, unregistered and unrecognised Okada riders from neighbouring states, in light of the recent restriction order placed on them in 15 local government areas and local council development areas in Lagos State.

Special Adviser to the state governor on Works and Transport, Toke Olaniyan, in a statement said the state was not willing to welcome strange motorcyclists into their town. He also warned residents to report any strange bike operator to the security agencies.

"We are in constant touch with ACOMORAN and other associations concerned with intra-city transportation in the state.

“They will ensure proper screening of all operators to avoid infiltration of unregistered commercial bike operators.

“The government will continue to provide adequate measures for the security and safety of residents," he said.

Promising to intensify their efforts in regulating bikes in the state, the state government promised to embark on a revalidation exercise soonest.

“We are going to embark on a revalidation exercise which will involve the documentation of owners and riders,” the statement said.
