US President Donald Trump has finally included Nigeria in the list of countries affected by a visa ban.

Also affected by the ban are Eritrea, Kyrgyzstan, Tanzania, Sudan and Myanmar which a US official said is as a result of their failure to meet US security and information-sharing standards.

According to Chad Wolf, acting secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, the new ban is designed to “address security concerns in the way the banned countries track their own citizens, share information with the U.S. and cooperate on immigration matters”.

He added that the US would work with those countries to bolster their security so as to help get them off the list.

The Trump administration first introduced a travel ban in 2017 with a list which had majority Muslim countries in it.
