Tambuwal orders immediate payment of new minimum wage to workers

Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State has ordered the immediate implementation of the payment of N30,000 as the new minimum wage to workers in the state.

Giving the order on January 10, Tambuwal stated that the payment should follow the January 2020 salary payment.

The governor also requested for a structure to ensure ghost workers are cleared from the state's data based.

The order was given by Tambuwal after examining the report from a constituted committee in charge of the implementation of the new minimum wage and consequential adjustments.

The governor said: "Verification of unscheduled staff and the sharp practise of sale of offer letters of employment to unwary citizens and a situation where children are on the payroll of the government will not be condoned.

"Prior to the negotiation that ushered the new wage regime, the state government had discovered a disparity in the salary data between the state civil service commission, the ministry of finance and the the office of the head of service".
