The supporters of former Imo Governor have staged a protest in Owerri, Imo State capital, on Sunday, to show their displeasure with the Supreme Court's judgment that sacked Emeka Ihedioha as the state governor.

The court ruled in favour of the All Progressives Congress’s Hope Uzodinma as the validly elected governor of the state in the election held in 2019 and ordered his immediate swearing in.

Like the protesters, the People's Democratic Party expressed their disgust with the court's decision in a an official statement yesterday and promised to fight back.

Here is what Ihedioha had to say:

“It is not about Emeka Ihedioha, it is not about Imo State,” Ihedioha said.

“It is about tomorrow. Do you go into an electoral process without having an idea? It has to be resolved one way or the other. We are waiting for answers, and I believe there will be answers. The verdict will not reduce my patriotism and commitment to democracy.”

However, Uzodinma, favoured by the judgement, said the judgement reinforced his belief in the capacity of the country’s judiciary. [Guardian]
