The Presidency has defended the use of the presidential jet by Hannah Buhari, the daughter of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).

Hannah made use of the jet to attended personal engagement in Bauchi State on January 9 which led to an outcry from Nigerians on social media.

The Presidency has now defended the action by the president's daughter who flew in the presidential jet to attended a special Durba festival in her honor organized by the Emir of Bauchi, Rilwanu Adamu.

Pictures surfaced online showing Hannah arriving at the Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa International Airport, Bauchi, where she was received by the First Lady of Bauchi state and some government officials.

Defending the action, a senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity, Garba Shehu, revealed that the president's wife and children have the right to use the presidential jet whenever they want.

He also revealed that Hannah got approval from the National Security Adviser after she made the request known to the president.

He said: “It’s true that a member of the First family was flown to Bauchi yesterday on a mission duly authorised. It wasn’t an impromptu or improper trip because it followed normal procedure. The Presidency informed the National Security Adviser of the mission who in turn informed the commander of the Presidential Air fleet.

“The normal practice in existence for a long time is that the Presidential Air fleet is available to the President and the first family and four others. These four are the vice president, the Senate president, the speaker and any other person(s) authorised by the president.”
