JUST IN: Appeal Court upholds Diri as Bayelsa governor, dismisses Alaibe's suit

Governor Duoye Diri of Bayelsa State Governor Duoye Diri of Bayelsa State

Duoye Diri has been upheld as the governor of Bayelsa State after the Court of Appeal in Owerri, Imo State dismissed the suit filed against him.

Recall that former Bayelsa governorship aspirant under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, Timi Alaibe, challenged the emergence of Diri as the legitimate winner of the PDP primaries held on September 3, 2019.

The court has however on Tuesday put the matter to bed by dismissing the suit filed by Alaibe.

According to Sahara Reporters, Alaibe had dragged the governor and the Independent National Electoral Commission to court over what he described as a ‘flawed process’ of the PDP primary.

The court ruled against the suit due to lack of merit and upheld an earlier judgment of a Federal High Court in Owerri.
