Inside sources from the Ghana Police have denied reports linking nine arrested Nigerians to the recent jailbreak in Owerri, Imo State.

This comes after reports went rife within the media in the West African country that the nine Nigerians were arrested as they were ferried across River Volta into Ada Foah and were preparing to come to Accra.

The arrest was confirmed by Ada District Police Command who had received information about the alleged fugitive jailbreakers, local news portal, MyNews Gh said.

The report further stated that the police proceeded to town and at Clinic Junction Lorry Station, Ada Foah, intercepted a Sprinter Bus number ER 1657-14 with nine (9) Nigerian Nationals including a female.

Reacting to the arrest, a source familiar with the story confirmed the arrest, stating, however, that he couldn't confirm if they were jailbreakers.

"I can confirm we have some nine Nigerians in our custody but as to whether they are the jailbreakers, I can't speak to that. We are now taking their statements to ascertain whether they are the jailbreakers from Nigeria," he said when asked for a comment.

At the time of filing this report, the Nigerian High Commission in Ghana also couldn't verify if the arrested were indeed jailbreakers.

The case has been transferred to Police CID Headquarters in Accra.

Meanwhile, local news portal, MyNews Gh gave the names of the arrested as Emmanuel Obinnah Chiedozie 27, Steve Eyenuku 33, Enebeli Lucky 29, Yomi Usmah 29, Kelli Ekureni 33 Freedom Yusuf 25, Obi Onuora 38, Patrick Chanar 47, and Bless Eyenuku 25

The reports said items found on them included cash, personal belongings, passports and ID cards, and local currency.
