Five things to know about Nigeria's first female combatant pilot, Tolulope Arotile

Nigerians are currently mourning at the news of the death of the first female combatant pilot, Tolulope Arotile, who died after she was hit by a car.

The Nigerian Air Force stated that Arotile died due to injuries to the head after she was hit by the car inside its base in Kaduna.

Below are five things to know about Arotile.

1.) She is a native of Ijumu Local Government Area of ??Kogi State.

2.) She completed her pilot training courses at the Starlite International Training Academy, South Africa.

3.) She was commissioned into the Nigerian Air Force in September 2017 as a member of the Nigerian Defence Academy Regular Course 64. She went on to be the first female combatant of the service.

4.) She was part of Operation GAMA AIKI which flew across North Central state and destroyed hideouts of bandits.

5.) During her service, she met with the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).

The Nigerian Air Force has sent their condolence to the Arotile family over the loss of the female combatant.

"On behalf officers, airmen, airwomen and civilian staff of the NAF commiserates with the family of late Flying Officer Arotile over this irreparable loss. We pray that the Almighty God grants her soul eternal rest", a statement read in part.
