'Because of 33K' trends after NYSC DG says corpers can be mobilized for war

Nigerians have reacted with humor to recent comments made by the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim.

Mr. Ibrahim intimated that corpers can be mobilized to fight the rising security challenges in the country since they were part of the national defense policy.

He made the comment on Channels Television’s ‘Sunrise Daily’ program on Thursday, June 3.

The Director-General was reacting to calls from several quarters supporting the scrapping of the scheme.

Since his comment hit the public domain, Nigerians have taken to micro-blogging platform, Twitter to express the dissatisfaction, be it, in a humorous way.

"Because of 33K" climbed the trends and maintained the top spot for hours with several persons creating memes and jokes from his statement.

The amount, N33,000 is the monthly stipend given to every member of the scheme.
