Former vice president of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar has called for the reform of the Nigerian Police Force especially the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS.

In a tweet shared, Atiku who stated that the reform is long overdue also reminded the force of its duty to protect life and property.

He wrote: "The reform of the Nigeria Police, especially the SARS unit, is long overdue. The@PoliceNG is meant to protect the life and property of our citizens and not to put them into harm's way".

This is coming just days after Tiamiyu Kazeem, a footballer who plays for Remo FC, was killed during an encounter with SARS operatives.

Tiamiyu was on his way from training when he met his end after he and his friend were stopped by the operatives.

According to his football club, Tiamiyu was stopped and searched by the men who later pushed him against an oncoming vehicle resulting in the loss of his life.

The club's statement was contradicted by the Police Command in Ogun State which stated that the footballer was hit by a car while fleeing from SARS.
