Assembly considers Auditor-General report for councils

Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Public Account (Local) has commenced an audit exercise for all local governments.

This, the committee chairman, Mojeed Fatai, said, was to ensure probity and accountability in the local government administration.

Fatai explained that the committee would go through the 2019 report of the Auditor-General and ensure due process is followed without fear or favour to any local council indicted.

According to him, letters have been sent to all councils to come with copies of the approved budget between 2017 and 2020, analysis of payment made to non-pensionable staff between 2017 and 2019.

Other relevant documents to be provided are analysis of recurrent expenditure, statements of accounts and all outstanding queries in the 2019 statutory report.

Officials expected at the exercise are Chairmen, Vice-Chairmen, Leaders of the legislators, executive members, Council Managers, Council Treasurers and Head of Departments.
