A man has been remanded in the Federal Correctional Centre, Makurdi, for allegedly raping a minor after a Benue State Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting on Tuesday, September 1, 2020.

The police prosecutor, Hyacinth Gbakor, told the court that the incident happened on June 22, 2020, around 11.55am at Tse Agberagba, headquarters of the Konshisha Local Government Area of the state, when an 11-year-old girl of the same address, who had gone to assist her grandmother in the market, was returning home, The Punch said.

The prosecutor alleged that 40-year-old Sunday Achir dragged the victim into his room, where he raped her.

The Punch reports that Gbakor said following a complaint, the suspect was arrested for committing an offence contrary to Section 284 of the Penal Code, Laws of Benue State, 2004.

The prosecutor informed the court that investigation into the matter was still ongoing and asked for another day to enable him prove his case.

The trial magistrate, Victor Kor, ordered that the accused be remanded in the Federal Correctional Centre, Makurdi, and adjourned the case till September 14, 2020, for mention.
