The Nigerian Army has arrested over 400 suspected Boko Haram members in Abia state.

They were apprehended along the Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway by soldiers attached to the 144 battlion in the Okowa Local Government Area.

The suspects included eight women who were travelling in 35 buses, of which 2 escaped with their occupants. This is after a few insurgents planted some improvised explosive devices in a church in Imo State.

Commissioner for Information of the Abia State, Eze Chikamnayo said:

"Some of them were between 16 and 25, 30 years of age. Among them were eight women between the ages of 16 and 24. Look at these 486 young men moving in a convoy of 35 vehicles to a destination unknown to them. To a job they have not applied for and moving by 3am in the night. Could this be a buildup?" he asked.

"From what we have also learnt, we gathered that this movement took place a month ago," the commissioner added.

He however promised to get to the root of the matter soonest.
