Two suspects arraigned in court for killing petrol attendant

Two men have been arraigned before the Chief Magistrates' Court sitting in Akure, Ondo for allegedly killing a petrol attendant.

The duo, Emmanuel James, 20, and Wisdom Richard, 26, were arrested by the police for killing the victim, Bolakale Abdullahi, an attendant at the Farbas filling station, Alagbaka, Akure in June.

The Punch also reported that they dispossessed one Ajayi Rasheed of the sum of N90,000.

The suspects were arraigned on four counts of felony, armed robbery, murder, and unlawful possession of firearms.

According to the prosecution, the offences are contrary to Section 316 and punishable under sections 1, 2 (a), (b), 3 (1), 6 (a) and (b) of the Robbery and Firearms Special Provisions Act, Cap RII, Law of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, and also contrary to Section 316 and punishable under Section 319, Cap 37, Vol 1, Law of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

The police prosecutor, Mr Onheninhen Augustine, told the court that the accused were notorious and trained armed robbers, adding that the court should remand them pending advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, The Punch said.

Counsel for the accused persons, E. O. Owanei, was not against the remand of his clients.

In her ruling the chief magistrate, Mrs O. R. Yakubu ordered the accused to be remanded in the custody of the Anti-Cultism Unit of the state police command.

She added that the case file should be transferred to the DPP’s office for legal advice and the matter was adjourned till November for the continuation of trial.
