Timothy Adegoke: Rahman, two other staff appeal death sentence

Dr Rahman Adedoyin, the owner of Hilton Hotels, Ile-Ife, Osun State and two of his staff members convicted for the murder of Timothy Adegoke has appealed their death sentence.

MyNigeria had reported that Adedoyin and two of his staffs were sentenced to death by hanging by an Osun State High Court sitting in Osogbo.

Chief Judge of Osun State, Justice Adepele Ojo passing judgment on the matter sentenced Adedoyin, and two of his staff members; Adebiyi Aderogba and Oyetunde Kazeem that participated in the evacuation of the deceased from the hotel.

Adegoke was a Masters student of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, before he died in November, 2021 in Hilton Hotels, Ile-Ife.

Justice Ojo also ruled that the hotel where Adegoke’s death occurred should be forfeited to the state government, while the education of the deceased’s children should be funded till they complete tertiary institution from the estates of the convicts.

The Judge, however, freed three staff members of the hotel namely; Magdalene Chiefuna, Oluwole Lawrence, and Adebayo Kunle, while the seventh defendant, Adesola Adedeji, who was the receptionist on duty on the day late Adegoke arrived at the facility, was sentenced to two years imprisonment starting from the day of her arrest.

The confirmation of the appeal of the judgment of the Osun State High Court on the matter, was done by one of the lawyers that represented Adedoyin in the case, Muhydeen Adeoye, during an interview on Thursday.

"We have filed an appeal against the judgment of Osun State High Court. The appeal was filed before the Court of Appeal, Akure.”
