'They are after Islam and the North' - Reactions as Abba Kyari top Twitter trends for second day

Social media has been on overdrive since the suspension of Deputy Police Commissioner, Abba Kyari on Sunday, August 1, 2021, after he was linked to the notorious fraudster, Ramon Abbas popularly known as Hushpuppi.

In a 69-page report that was made available by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the case of Hushpuppi to the Attorney General, Mr. Kyari and 5 others were mentioned in aiding the leader of the criminal syndicate.

The embattled Deputy Police Chief is alleged to have received bribes from Hushpuppi in a $1.1million scam. According to the reports, the bribe was to facilitate the arrest of one Kelly Chibuzo Vincent, the internet fraudster’s co-conspirator and ally.

Details of their conversations revealed that Mr. Kyari received money from Hushpuppi to have Mr. Chibuzo detained for five weeks.

Peoples Gazette reports that in 2019, Messrs Abass, Chibuzor and others conspired to take advantage of a Qatari businessperson’s interest in securing a loan meant for a project in Qatar. In an attempt to defraud the unsuspecting businessperson, the conspirators persuaded the Qatari to pay them under the guise of taxes, among others to fast-track the said loan.
