Six people have been killed in a fatal crash at Durum village on the Bauchi-Kano Road, Bachi State.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the accident, which occurred on Monday around 6.20 pm, involved two commercial vehicles.

Nineteen other passengers reportedly sustained varying degrees of injury in the crash.

This is coming barely four days after five people were killed and three others sustained injuries in a crash at Gubi village, Bauchi-Kano Road. That accident involved a Volkswagen Sharon vehicle and a tricycle.

A total of 18 male adults were involved in the crash. The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Bauchi State, Yusuf Abdullahi, confirmed the latest incident to our correspondent on Monday night.

He claimed that men of the corps got to the accident scene within 20 minutes of being alerted to the tragedy.

“The crash involved two commercial vehicles, both Ford Galaxy buses. One of them was driven by one Ibrahim Abduljalal and had the number plate, JJN 712 YX.

“The name of the driver of the second vehicle and the number plate had yet to be ascertained.

“The crash was caused by the worn-out tyres of one of the vehicles and it affected 25 people, comprising 23 male adults, one female adult and one female child.

“Our men rushed the victims to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, for treatment and confirmation.

“When they got there, a medical doctor confirmed six male adults dead. Those who sustained various degrees of injury were 19 in number: 17 male adults, one female adult and one female child.

“The corpses were deposited at the morgue of the same hospital after which they would be released to their relatives for burial,” Abdullahi added.

The FRSC boss said the obstructions on the road had been cleared, while the vehicles were handed over to the Motor Transport Department of the GRA Police Station.
