The Rivers State Police Command said it arrested six persons in connection with the killing of a 400-level student of the Rivers State University, Port Harcourt, Chimena Uzondu.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Nnamdi Omoni, disclosed this during an interview with our correspondent on Sunday.

The police spokesman said the suspects were giving useful information to the police.

Uzondu, an engineering student, was shot dead by a fellow undergraduate in the varsity in what was termed a cult attack.

The suspect, Suanu Nwilyaara, was later expelled by the school authorities.

The victim’s mother, Josephine Amaechi, while saying that her son was not a cultist, noted that a gun found on his remains was planted, as she urged the police to conduct a diligent investigation into the matter.

The PPRO, however, said the gun was recovered in the presence of his sibling.

He said, “So far, six persons have been arrested in connection with that incident. Some of them have made useful statements regarding that incident and the investigation is on.

“At the end of our investigations, we will take it up from there. For now, six persons have been arrested, including the prime suspect who shot the boy.

“We are saying that a locally-made pistol and some cartridges were found in his pubic region while undressing him before he was taken to the mortuary. The pistol was found in his pubic region in the presence of his brother.”
