A 45-year-old sales representative, Dauda Saminu, who allegedly stole medical products worth N2.4 million, a property of his employers, on Thursday appeared in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

He is charged with obtaining goods under false pretenses and stealing.

The prosecutor, ASP Ezekiel Ayorinde told the court that the defendant committed the offence between Feb. 7, 2014 and Nov. 27, 2015 at Ilupeju, Lagos.

He said that the defendant stole the goods belonging to Clarion Medical Ltd.

“The defendant obtained various medical products from his company under the pretext of supplying to the company’s customers and failed to remit the amount collected into the company’s account,” the prosecutor said.

Ayorinde said that after the defendant sold the products, he absconded.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 287(7)and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Section 287(7) stipulates seven years imprisonment for stealing from the employer while section 314 prescribes 15 years for obtaining goods under false pretenses.

Saminu, however, pleaded not guilty.

Magistrate B.O. Osunsanmi admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N150,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Osunsanmi ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.(LASG).

She adjourned the case until Feb. 10 for mention.
