The Israeli government, via it's mission in Nigeria, has distributed food items to a Muslim community in Nigeria as the Ramadan fasting comes to an end.

MyNigeria.com gathered that at least 770 families and 3,400 children will benefit from the over 700 cartons of food items donated to Dr Muhammad Adams, Imam of the Abuja Central Mosques, in Abuja.

While at least 200 cartons were deposited on Wednesday, the remaining cartons would be donated to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps and orphanages in Abuja, according to Mr Shimon Ben-Shoshan, Ambassador of Israel to Nigeria.

According to Ben-Shoshan, who is also the Permanent Representative of Israel to ECOWAS, we came here to celebrate together with the Muslim community, not only in Ramadan but Eid-el Fitri, despite the global COVID-19 pandemic.

“We should not let the coronavirus defeat us, we should continue with our tradition, with our holidays, with our beliefs and human beings all around the globe.

“Our togetherness is not only for fighting the coronavirus it should remain, we should learn lesson from the pandemic, which is for us to be together and remember that we are brothers.

“We should help each other and care for one another,” Ben-Shoshan said.

Rabbi Israel Uzan, the Rabbi of Israel to Nigeria, who donated the food items to the Al-Habbiyyah Mosque, Abuja, said the gesture will go along way in uniting the Muslims and Jews in Nigeria.

“What we are doing today is a time for me to express appreciation to the Imam of Al-Habbiyyah Mosque for granting us the opportunity to meet in this blessed month of Ramadan.

“It is a period of the Omar and upcoming Jewish calendar; it is apt to find myself with my colleagues, the Ambassador and Imam in this Holy place and share something.

“I learnt about the descendants of Abraham and my many brothers around the world.

“Today, I learnt aspects of the Holy Quran from the Imam, which I truly appreciate.

“What has happened here is an example of togetherness, we can show to the world, many people want to be at Mosques or synagogues, but cannot due to pandemic,” he said.

Receiving the Items, Sheik Fuad Adeyemi, national Chief Imam of Al-Habbiyyah Mosque, expressed appreciation for the gesture, stating that he shares the vision of unity among Muslims and other faiths in order to have peace and stability in Nigeria and across the world.

The items were put together by Embassy of the State of Israel in Nigeria, in collaboration with ChabadAid, MAG Tech System Ltd., and Brand Life Vision Foundation, an NGO.
