Police vow to arrest killers of former Anambra monarch

The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Tony Olofu, has vowed to arrest killers of a deposed traditional ruler in the state, Chief Alex Edozieuno. Edozieuno, 62, and his driver, one Chukwuemeka, were killed by gunmen on Friday on Ezu Bridge, Otuocha, in the Anambra East Local Government Area of the state.

He was among 13 traditional rulers suspended last year for visiting the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), in Abuja with an oil mogul, Prince Arthur Eze, without the authorisation of the state government.

He was later dethroned by the state government alongside three others. The Anambra State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Basil Ejidike, in a joint press conference on Sunday with the Director General of the Andy Uba Campaign Organisation, Paul Chukwuma, said the monarch’s murder was political.

The CP, who led some senior officers from the command to commiserate with the deceased’s family, said the perpetrators of the dastardly act would not go unpunished.

He said, “I want to assure all of you that the police command will leave no stone unturned in unraveling the circumstances surrounding the gruesome murder of the late HRH Igwe Alex Edozieuno, arresting the perpetrators and bringing them to book.”The deceased’s son, Chinedu Edozieuno, thanked the commissioner and his team for their efforts and concern.
