Police search for killers of Imo cops, contractor

The police in Imo State have launched a manhunt for killers of two policemen at a boundary between Imo and Anambra states, including a contractor.

The contractor and member of the Peoples Democratic Party, Kizzito Akwaeke, hailed from Amaebu in the Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State.

Our correspondent learnt on Friday that the gunmen apart from killing the policemen also made away with the politician’s vehicle and the money he withdrew from a new generation bank at Orlu town.

It was further gathered that the only policeman who survived the attack had been rushed to an undisclosed hospital.

A source told City Round that Akwaeke withdrew the money from an Automated Teller Machine at Orlu town in the early hours of Thursday.

He said, “The gunmen trailed him and opened fire on him at a police checkpoint between Imo and Anambra states as he was exchanging pleasantries with some cops. He and two policemen were killed while another cop was injured.”

It was gathered that two other persons who were in the car with Akwaeke escaped.

The police spokesperson in Imo State, Orlando Ikeokwu, confirmed the incident, adding that the state Commissioner of Police, Isaac Akinmoyede, had activated the Tactical Units of the command to arrest the killers.
