Police escorts beat up FRSC personnel in Ogun

Some armed policemen on escort duties allegedly assaulted personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps controlling traffic at the NNPC junction on the Ijebu-Ode-Ore Expressway.

It was gathered that the escorts drove against the traffic on the road around 10.25am and were cautioned by the personnel as other motorists followed them.

PUNCH Metro learnt that efforts to enforce the lane discipline on the escorts and other motorists proved abortive as the armed policemen allegedly assaulted the FRSC officers and left one of them injured in the eye.

Also, a motorist in a Mazda bus with number plate AAA 249 VX knocked down an FRSC officer at the Kwakiyama area of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The driver, who was initially stopped by the officer, was said to have zoomed off and knocked the officer down and left him injured.

It was gathered that a manhunt was immediately launched for the driver and he was arrested and handed over to the police at the Ogere Police Station.

Similarly, three persons were injured in four crashes that occurred in Ogun State on Sunday.

The first crash, which occurred at the Oremeji area of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, involved a Toyota bus with number plate 50 L156 FG.

It was gathered that the bus crashed due to speeding, leaving one person injured, who was rushed to the Riverside Hospital, Oremeji.

Another crash, which occurred at the Mountain Top University area of the expressway, involved a Hyundai car with number plate KRD 997 FM.

It was gathered that six persons were involved in the accident with two injured and rescued to the Divine Touch Hospital, Ibafo.

The FRSC Sector Commander, Clement Oladele, urged motorists to drive cautiously as the driver/owner of any vehicle impounded risk prosecution and seizure.
