Police arrest suspected gunman with AK47 in Kaduna

The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested a suspected gunman at the Lere Local Council of Kaduna State.

Items retrieved from the gunman were a Volkswagen vehicle and AK47 rifle.

According to the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Muhammed Jalige, the suspect identified as Bello Abubakar, was arrested during a shoot out.

He further stated that the suspect has volunteered useful information that could also lead to the arrest of his other gang members.

“Operatives of the Kaduna Police Command on June 18, 2021, at about 0745hrs, while on routine patrol along Kudaru forest in Saminaka, Lere Local Council of Kaduna State intercepted a Volkswagen vehicle (Golf) green in colour with Reg. No. KAG 142 AA heading towards Kaduna.

“They noticed its occupants’ suspicious disposition and flagged them down. They parked a distance away and took to their heels into the forest. Policemen engaged them in a shoot-out and succeeded in apprehending one Bello Abubakar ‘male’ and when the vehicle was searched, an AK47 rifle was found concealed in a bid to escape the security forces along the route.

“The suspect is currently undergoing thorough investigation and is giving useful information to the Police, while concerted effort is ongoing with the view to apprehending the fleeing members of the gang to face the full wrath of the law,” he said.
