POS operator blows N280m mistakenly sent to his account on houses, cars, others

A POS operator in Kwara state identified as Alfa Rafiu, has been arrested for allegedly spending a whopping sum of N280 million mistakenly sent to his bank account.

It was gathered that the POS operator having received the millions in batches few weeks ago, began spending the money.

The neigbours of Rafiu, who lived in Akuji compound, Abayawo area in Illorin expressed shock at the manner the suspect started living large.

One of the sources who spoke to the Nigerian Tribune said Rafiu spent the money on houses, cars, and even sponsored people to the lesser Hajj in Saudi Arabia.

“Instead of him to draw the attention of the bank that mistakenly transferred the huge fund to his account, he went on a speeding spree.

“Rafiu bought houses and cars and sponsored people to the lesser Hajj. Although he was generous to several people in the community, some residents were surprised about his sudden wealth as a POS operator,” the source said.

The Kwara State Police Command Spokesperson, SP Ajayi Okasanmi, confirmed the arrest of the POS operator on Tuesday, April 18, 2023.

He said; “His arrest was effected by the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (FCIID) from Alagbon-Close, Ikoyi, Lagos which makes it out of our jurisdiction.”
