One person was reportedly killed in Igbaye, Osun state on Monday following a crisis that erupted during the end of the year carnival celebration in the town.

A top security source, who pleaded anonymity told our correspondent that the immediate cause of the crisis was a misunderstanding that started at the venue of the end of the year carnival.

He however added that the clashes between the parties involved in the crisis was not unconnected with the tussle over Onigbaye stool.

He further explained that the causality of the clash, a man, after he was shot, was rushed to a hospital in Okuku, where he eventually gave up the ghost. “The crisis started during an end of the year carnival.

The details are not available yet, but from the findings, the remote cause of the crisis was not unconnected with the Onigbaye stool.

“A man was shot and he was rushed to a hospital in Okuku, where he was declared dead. Police operatives, Amotekun corps and local hunters have been deployed to the community,” the source concluded.

Onigbaye of Igbaye, Oba Joseph Okunlola-Oni, could not be reached for comment on his mobile phone, as the line was switched off and response to a text message sent to him was still being expected as of the time of filing this report.

But the spokesperson of Osun Police Command, Yemisi Opalola, when contacted, confirmed that there was unrest arising from carnival celebration in the town.

Although she did not confirm that a life was lost to the crisis, Opalola, said “the Commissioner has deployed our tactical teams. The unrest started from a carnival celebration. But our men are on the ground and the situation has been brought under control.”
