Operatives of the Ondo State Security Network, codenamed Amotekun Corps have impounded over 40 vehicles in different nightclubs in Akure and environs.

Owners of the impounded vehicles were said to have flouted the ban on nightclub operations beyond 12 midnight.

Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu had last week ordered nightclubs to close operations by 12 midnight owing to rising crimes in Akure.

The raid on nightclubs was said to have been carried out between 1 am and 2 am.

Special Adviser to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu on Security Matters, Alhaji Jimoh Dojumo, said it was worrisome that some owners of nightclubs and beer parlour joints flouted orders of the Governor.

He said: “We have to raid the nightclubs and impound the vehicles because there is a subsisting order of Mr Governor that the clubs should not operate at nights for security reasons.

“We discovered that many criminal activities are perpetrated in the night and during the interrogation of suspects, we discovered that these criminals always use clubs as shield.

“The level of hard drugs intake in the clubs is very high because after taking the drugs you see them misbehaving all these we want to stop in this State.”

Commander of Ondo Amotekun Corps, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, said the owners of the impounded vehicles were cautioned before the vehicles were released to them.
