'Number of inmates awaiting trial worrisome' - Akeredolu

Ondo State Governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu Ondo State Governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu

The Ondo State Governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, has decried the state of congestion of the correctional centres across the state and ordered the commencement of the process to decongest the facilities.

Akeredolu gave the directive in his office while receiving the Controller of the Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Correctional Services, Mr Opeyemi Fatinikun, who paid him a courtesy visit.

The governor particularly expressed concern over the number of persons awaiting trial across the five custodial centres in the state.

He directed the office of the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice to start the legal process of domesticating the non-custodial policy contained in the Nigerian Correctional Service Act, 2019 in a bid to decongest the correctional centres in the state.
