A Nigerian man identified as Onyebuchi Johnbosco Ezedinugwu has been arrested by the Thailand immigration police for living in the country for seven years with a 60-day tourist visa.

The 40-year-old man was said to have landed in Thailand in April 2014 on a 60-day tourist visa with permission to stay until June 25th of the same year.

Onyebuchi was arrested in Bangkok on Tuesday, January 19, PM News reports.

According to the report, immigration is targeting people from Africa to check if they have a valid visa. This is part of measures associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.

The country has considered illegal immigration as a major factor for the second wave of coronavirus after an outbreak at Samut Sakhon seafood market affecting a large migrant population.
