The Ogun State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on Wednesday said it arrested 21 suspects and seized 700 kilogrammes of cannabis in one month.

The state NDLEA Assistant Commander, Drug Demand Reduction, Eucharia Ekwu, spoke at the command headquarters in Abeokuta.According to Ekwu, the seizures were from August to September 14, 2021.

She added that other seizures included 28.59 grams of Methamphetamine,13.65g of crack, 279 bottles of codeine, 360 tablets of molly and1,400 tablets of a psychotropic substance. She lamented that Ogun State, being a gateway state sharing boundaries with states in the country, had become a dumping ground for drugs.

Ekwu said this made fighting drug abuse challenging in the state. She said, “We arrested 21 persons during our operations, consisting of 18 males and three females. When you have a state with the highest population of students in secondary schools and tertiary institutions, you are bound to have a lot of drug users. We need more logistics; we need more cooperation from members of the public.”
