MoneyHeist: Suspected Mpape bank robbers to face trial March 13

Robbery suspects associated with the foiled Mpape bank robbery at a First Bank branch in Mpape, Abuja were arraigned at the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Wuse today.

With case number CR/166/2020, they were brought before Justice Ajoke Adepoju of Court 22.

The suspects were slammed with a five-court charge bordering on armed robbery and illegal possession of firearms.

The suspects Ehizo Larry ‘m’ 30 years, Princewill Obinna ‘m’ 24 years, Elijah David‘m’ 19 years, Timothy Joe ‘m’ 21 years and Ernest Ewim ‘m’ 29 years are the first to fifth defendants respectively.

The fifth defendant (Ewim) was represented by his lawyer, Peter Ihunweze.

Officer in charge of Legal of the FCT Command, James Idachaba told the other four suspects to get lawyers and if they were unable to, promised to contact the legal aide council to get lawyers for them in line with constitutional requirements.

After the charges were read to them by the court, they all pleaded not guilty to all of them.

Idachaba said taking into consideration that the suspects had pleaded not guilty, they were ready for trial.

The suspects were remanded in prison with the case adjourned to March 13, 2020, for a definite hearing.

Last year, unidentified gunmen stormed First Bank located at Mpape, a satellite town in the nation’s capital.

The suspects were said to have gained entry into the banking hall after shooting sporadically into the air to scare people away.

This attracted the attention of many residents in the area who came out to witness what looked like a robbery scene out of a movie.
