Man arrested for impregnating, procuring two abortions for 16-year-old niece in Ogun

A 52-year-old man, Jimoh Mutaliu has been arrested by the police in Ogun State for impregnating and procuring abortion twice for his 16-year-old niece.

Mutaliu was caught on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, following a complaint by the victim's father at the Adatan Divisional Headquarters, that his daughter was impregnated.

Police spokesperson in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said in a statement on Wednesday that the victim's father alleged that his brother was responsible for the pregnancy.

It was learnt that the suspect, Mutaliu also confessed to have committed the crime in his written statement and admitted that he procured abortions for the girl.

Oyeyemi said, “The victim’s father alleged that his own brother was responsible for the pregnancy.

“He alleged that the suspect has been sleeping with his daughter for quite some time now and has procured two abortions for her.

“Upon the report, the Divisional Police Officer, Adatan division, SP Abiodun Salau, detailed detectives to the scene where the randy uncle was promptly arrested.

“On interrogation, the suspect made a confessional statement that he actually committed the crime.

“In addition, he also affirmed that he had procured two abortions for her with the help of a nurse."

Meanwhile, the victim has been taken to the hospital by the police for medical treatment.

According to Oyeyemi, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Edward Ajogun, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (CIID) for further investigation and prosecution.

He expressed worry over the rampant cases of incest in the state and advised mothers to keep a watchful eye on their female children.
