Three international airport terminals in Lagos, Port Harcourt and Abuja at the weekend received their certificates of accreditation from the global airports regulator, Airports Council International (ACI), under its Airport Health Accreditation Programme.

The accreditation of the three airports, according to spokesperson of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs Henrietta Yakubu, was sequel to the evidence presented by the authority and review by the ACI, which indicated that FAAN was providing a safe airport environment as a priority.

The FAAN spokesperson said the accreditation was in line with the ACI Aviation Business Restart and Recovery guidelines as well as the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Council Aviation Restart Task Force recommendations along with industry best practices.

She described the accreditation as evidence of efforts by FAAN, led by the Managing Director, Capt. Hamisu Yadudu and his team to ensure the safety and security of travellers and airport users.

She said FAAN recently beefed up safety protocols at airports, following the new wave of COVID-19, and a monitoring team was set up for each airport to drive total compliance.
