Hoodlums attack barbershop in Anambra, dispossess customers

Hoodlums on Sunday evening attacked a barbershop in Azu Ogbunike in the Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State and dispossess customers therein of their personal effects, including telephones and jewelry.

Two of the suspects said to specialise in telephone and handbag snatching were arrested by the police in the area.

The suspects' names and ages were given as Oluebubechukwu Isaac, 20, and Ekezie Ifeanyi,19.

It was gathered that customers in the barbershop at No. 3 Olisakwe crescent in Azu Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area of the state were attacked with a gun and robbed of their valuables.

The victims, mostly young men it learnt were waiting for their turns at barbershop while others were charging their telephones when the hoodlums struck.

One of the victims told our correspondent, "They stormed the salon at about 7.45pm, pointing guns at the customers as they ordered us to surrender all the items in our possession.

"We were dispossesed of our handsets, jewelry and other valuables by the suspects at gunpoint.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Haruna Mohammed confirmed the incident to our correspondent.

He said the suspects had been arrested and had confessed to the crime.

He said firearm and other exhibits were recovered from the suspects.

He added, "Following a distress call, police operatives attached to Operations Kpochakpu II Obunike Division and Otoucha Area command in conjunction with vigilante group arrested one Oluebubechukwu Isaac, 20 years of Azu Ogbunike and Ekezie Ifeanyi, aged 19 years of Osile Ogbunike village all in Oyi LGA of Anambra State.

"Suspects allegedly went to a barbing salon located at No.3 Olisakwe crescent Azu Ogbunike and robbed all the customers inside the salon of their belongings including handsets, jewelry and other valuables at gunpoint.

"Exhibits recovered in their possession include one locally-made revolver pistol, two wristwatches, one gold-coloured Infinix phone, one white-coloured Lovona phone, one black power bank, one gold plated necklace, and one Malaysian bag."

Mohammed said the suspects would be charged as soon as investigations were concluded.
