Gunmen kill father, son in Rivers community

Unidentified gunmen yesterday killed a man, Amobi Oguzo and his son, Prince Oguzo in the Ibaa community in the Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The Guardian gathered that the deceased, a member of the disbanded local security outfit known as OSPAC, was allegedly shot by a gang and a few hours later, his son Prince was gunned down by the same gang.

Recall that there have been a series of killings in the area in the last month, the cause of the latest killing is, however, not yet known.

Meanwhile, natives of the area are said to be fleeing the community for fear of being victims.

The General Commander of the disbanded OSPAC in the community in the Council, Emeka Wori expressed disappointment at the killing.

He said: “I do not know if politicians or the community are sponsoring these boys”.

Wori stressed that relatives of suspected gunmen have deserted the village, suggesting that they were privy to the action.
The OSPAC commander said he was at Ibaa with the Divisional Police Officer of Rumuji and the Army to seek urgent intervention in the area.

He urged members of disbanded OSPAC to be careful of their movement and protect themselves.

Four months ago some ‘repentant Iceland’ cultists reportedly accused OSPAC in Ibaa of killing their members but OSPAC leadership denied the killing of about six ‘repentant’ Iceland cultists.

A spokesperson for Rivers State Police Command, SP Nnamdi Omoni, was yet to respond to an enquiry on the attack.

In a related development, gunmen on Wednesday night shot an estate agent identified as Alex Frank Blaze along Afikpo/Abakilaka street, Mile 1 Diobu, PortHarcourt.

A source, who craved anonymity, said four gunmen, who pretended to be customers at a drinking bar in the area on sighting the estate agent, rushed and shot him in the stomach and immediately fled the scene.

An eyewitness said passers-by and residents took the victim to an undisclosed hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.
