Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, FFK, has reacted to the explosion which destroyed 100 houses on Saturday in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

In a Facebook post, FFK recalled how the Southwest got hit by similar cases in the space of weeks.

According to him, this might actually be bombs placed as target against the Southwest.

He tweeted: “First it was Ekiti, then Abule Ado in Lagos and now Akure,” Fani-Kayode tweeted.

“If we like, we should keep kidding ourselves, saying that these are not bombs and that we are not being targeted.

“Let’s hope that by the end of it all, there will still be someone left standing to defend the South-West,” he said.

Meanwhile, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has said that the explosion was caused by a vehicle transporting explosives to a neighboring state.

While addressing newsmen on the site of the incident, Akeredolu stated that the vehicle developed fault and started to emmit smoke which was beyond the control of the security personnel in the vehicle.

The smoke led to the explosion which was heard as far as Akure and its environs.
