Ekiti State names and shames sex offender

The Ekiti State Government has named and shamed a sex offender as part of its effort to rid the state of all forms of violence against Women and Children.

The sex offender, Ajewole Dada Filani, was convicted and sent to life imprisonment for raping a 23-year-old woman.

His picture and other details have been published on public notice issued on the official Twitter handle of the Ekiti State Government.

A statement reads: "In response to the frequency of reported cases of Gender-based violence and sexual abuse, the Government of Ekiti State has published the name & photograph of another convicted sex offender in the State.

"The Ministry of Justice under the leadership of @AGWaleFapohunda has released a Public Notice on the status of Ajewole Dada Filani, formerly resident in Ikere-Ekiti who was convicted for the rape of a 23-year-old woman.

"Ajewole is currently serving life imprisonment at the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Ado Ekiti. He has also been registered in the Ekiti State Ministry of Justice @ekiti_MOjustice Sex Offenders’ Register.

"This name and shame policy is part of the proactive measures deployed by the State Government to rid Ekiti State of all forms of violence against Women and Children.

"Ekiti Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Management Committee, which is chaired by First Lady @bisiafayemi, is currently on advocacy tour to engage key stakeholders in proactive ways to eliminate GBV, FGM & sexual harassment, and to ensure the security of victims and access to justice".
