Members of the House of Representatives are looking to suspend plenary for 2 weeks in order to oversee what is being done to contain the coronavirus nationwide.

This resolution was part of the prayers of a motion moved by Mr. Josiah Idem at the plenary on Tuesday, which was unanimously adopted.

The Minority Leader, Ndudi Elumelu, particularly made the additional prayer to the motion that the lawmakers adjourn for two weeks to allow adequate preparation for the disease at the National Assembly Complex.

Honourable Uyime Idem asked the federal government to release more funds to the ministry of health and Nigeria Center for Disease Control in order to quarantine, treat, and contain the #COVID2019 situation.

Uyime added that the situation was so dire globally that 3,000 people have died and over 90,000 were infected with the virus. He called on the leadership of the Senate to set up an ad-hoc committee that will liaise with relevant health agencies to ensure the virus is contained.

Honourable Nasir Ahmed expressed concern that a few isolation centers in Nigeria are grossly inadequate to cater for an outbreak. Sununu lauded the NCDC for its proactiveness in early detection and containment of the first case in Nigeria.
