The popular Amu market located in the Mushin area of Lagos state has been razed by fire, leaving properties worth millions of Naira damaged.

According to reports, the fire broke out very early on Saturday around 2:10 am, and the cause of the outbreak is yet unknown.

Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) officers are currently on ground battling the fire.

Amu market houses building and construction materials amongst others.

An eyewitness claimed that the fire started around 12:27 am from a spot in the market and spread to other buildings and other shops before LASEMA team came to the market.

He said: “As at the time the fire started, that was no power supply. So it is difficult to say what actually caused the fire outbreak. Almost 90 per cent of the building materials have been destroyed but no life was lost.” [The Sun]
