21-year-old man sentenced to death for robbery in A’Ibom

Akwa Ibom State High Court in Uyo presided over by Justice Okon Okon on Wednesday sentenced a 21-years old man, one Ekemimi Edet, to death by hanging for robbing MI AMAN pharmacy shop in Uyo, the state capital.

The accused, who confessed to the crime, was said to have attacked bbed the pharmacy located on Aka Nung Udoe Road, Uyo in March, last year.

Delivering judgement Justice Okon Okon, held that the accused was found guilty of armed robbery which was punishable by death under Section 1 (2a) of the Robbery and Firearms Special Provisions Act, Laws of the Federation 2004.

Justice Okon said that the prosecution has “satisfactorily discharged the burden of proving the guilt of the accused in the commission of the crime.”

“I, therefore, find the accused guilty and accordingly convict him. The sentence of this court is that you Ekemini Edet, be hanged by the neck until you be dead,” the judge held.
