The police in Lagos on Thursday arraigned a 20-year-old suspected cultist, Leke Folarin, who allegedly assaulted and stabbed one Mr Yinusa Mustapha while engaging in a fight.

The defendant was brought on a two-count charge of assault and cultism before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to both counts.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Simeon Gideon, told the court that the defendant committed the alleged crimes on Dec. 2 at 5:57 p.m., at Kudara, Ebute Meta, Lagos.

Gideon said that the defendant conspired with others at large to engage in unlawful activities suspected to be cultism.

He said that the defendant and the others engaged in a fight with dangerous weapons such as cutlasses and broken bottles, adding that he assaulted Mustapha and stabbed him on the head, back and hand in the process.

The alleged offences contravene Section 42 and 174 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr A.B. Ajiferuke, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties and adjourned the case till Jan. 15, 2020.
